MeShell Ndegeocello: Twenty Years Since Plantation Lullabies

Reaching way back from the future here. PL is still being talked about by the top players. I don't know of anybody funkier than her on this album. Biting, angular licks with incredible groove.

It will be 29 years old this October. It has been a while since I had it in heavy rotation, and nothing Meshell has done in maybe fifteen years has really interested me, but I will always be happy for her first album, and I really appreciate three of her first four albums. I have come to appreciate great art and accept that creativity is finite. No one should still expect more of the same from an artist when the spark is gone.
