Metal Bass?

For your distortion overdrive voice, pick pedal based on fave sounding overdrive/distortion to you irregardless of any bass loss. We'll fix that in a second. Reason being that picking overdrive/distortion pedal based on its retention of low bass means sacrificing the qaulity of overdrive distortion in my experience and opinion tone freak wise. Lol. After distortion/overdrive you want a 6-8 band eq pedal with low bass slider or sliders that go below 60hz for their center. Restore your low bass 30hz thru 60hz with the equilaizer as needed and boost it more if desired. You indicated you wanted sludge yet articulate doom bass tone when desired after all. Lol. Hint for maximizing overdrive saturation and niceness: try stacking two of same kind into each other. For example marshall gov pair or proco rat pair.

What are you liking for strings? Rotosound swing 66, DR neon and Dean Markley blue steel (prob need to dial down the treble on your basses eq with the deans for awhile though till broken in). Suggested for nicest bass thru mids and not harsh treble content.

Well, I haven't got a lot of experience with strings. Not sure what my bass came with, but I've replaced them once with Fender P Bass strings. Think the E was .120 ga. (Snapped it somehow playing Fight Fire with Fire, don't ask me how, I'm not sure myself) Got the original E back on, and three Heavy Ga. Fender P strings. I'd like to try experimenting with thinner gauges, like rotosound roundwound funk series.

I'll admit, when it comes to Gear, I'm a noob. As far as Distortion goes, all I know is I've been after a Russian Big Muff Pi Fuzz Box, and a Morley Wah. I've been a Cliff burton Fan since I picked up my Bass and I always wanted to get that same sound from Orion and Damage Inc. That said, I've been evolving more, recently, and I've been looking into different sounds, hence the Djent and Sludge. As for Stacking two of the same into each other, could you elaborate? You mean running both of them through one another before sending them to an output?

I seriously considered the Warmoth Medium 5 string with the OBP-3 preamp!
Im having Mike Lull put together an M5 trans Black 35 scale with Norstrand fat stacks and Aguilar OBP-3 preamp...cant wait until it is done....
have good luck with the longer scale and Stainless strings for an aggressive sound...

Im wanting to check out DR Highbeams next...have a couple Pro steels to use first though...

had good luck with my Sans Amp DI for my SWR, but once I switched to GK it did work with the 12 inch speakers so well...curious about the T-Rex Bass Juice, Aguilar Agro or the Soundblox Multi Wave distortion...curious if anyone has tried these with the GK, which sounds pretty good on its own!

I know what I'm after.
Awesome!
I know what KIND of bass I'm building. I just need the MATERIALS.
OK.
Ugh. No, I don't know what I want...
I thought that was clear in the first post. Apparently it wasn't. Hopefully that can be put to rest now.
Hrmmm...
Would you guys recommend actives, or passives?
:eyebrow:
Well, I haven't got a lot of experience
