No, I don't think he is. I think he's saying based on the way the guy has his hands positioned in the pictures, he doesn't look like a very good player. Yesyes, don't judge a book by it's cover (sigh), but I've never seen a professional player play with technique THAT bad.
I HAVE heard him, though, and it's alright (his tone overwhelms the mix, in my opinion. "Smile", anyone?), but nothing special.
In my opinion, who cares if "Metal bassists" or "X bassists" get less respect. I sure hope that's NOT what they're in it for. If so, they don't deserve it.
Not that in matters, but at least in metal's case, given that it's popular mainstream music, don't they actually get MORE coverage than "respected" bassists, such as Wooten (for a good example of one popular with kids and adults)? I don't know that it matters that some people don't consider metal as refined as jazz or classical, because they still get far more coverage in the presses!
