Metal/Rock Bands with Cello

I'm looking around for some listening material of metal and rock bands that have a full time Cellist. I'm at the point where I write the primary melody with my electric Cello as opposed to Guitar, then add Bass after the melodies are completed. Know of any bands that have a Cellist as an equal member? All I seem to find is Cellists doing metal covers or just sitting in as opposed to being a band member.

Well there are these guys...

But at best, they are a novelty act.


There was this trio that emerged in the 90’s, but they played to more of a goth-ish audience...

Before ELO, there was The Move, initially sort of a cross between The Beatles and The Who; leader Roy Wood would dabble with cello, he bailed as they morphed into the later band...



He was onboard for the first album, which nobody really knows about...

...and then went on to form Wizzard...

The middle part of this is a fave of mine...

Eclectic late 60’s band...

Jack Bruce used cello sparingly in Cream; aside from the intro of “White Room” and a call-and-response solo with Clapton on “Wrapping Paper”, it carries this tune...

Frankly, you might want to draw inspiration from Classical and Baroque music and let that be something that influences you.

That's pretty much the direction I'm going, I do like listening to others to see what they're doing. 2Cello's are probably the only modern project but they do covers. I prefer their classical scores over AC/DC covers. I was hoping to find some modern prog metal but I don't think anyone's doing it.

There are some interesting strings at the beginning of Perry Mason by Ozzy - might be worth a listen.

If you've ever heard one of their concerts, but not blazingly loud - a tape played at a reasonable volume, you realize the challenge in having multiple fretless instruments playing on a loud stage together - they tended to be rather out of tune with each other.
