METALHEADS help me find an amp

I've got a GK rig with a 2001rb, but after playing through a Mesa 8x10 and a Big Block Titan V12 last week there's no way I'll stay with the GK. I've been a die-hard GK guy for years of metal, but the Mesa blows it away in presence, warmth, cleanliness yet with drive and punch, and in being 2x more expensive.

Bumpin' it up.

I got some replies and they were helpful, but what I'm really looking for is to have some fellow metal heads tell me about THEIR rigs. What head/cab combinations do you use? Please include what kind of bass you play and any effects you use. If anyone has sound samples that would be awesome. Let me know what kind of music you play, influences, size of your band, etc.

I'm a metalhead. I used to have a Trace Elliot 1x15 combo amp with the matching extension cab. Always got that awesome tone that cut and would rumble when I wanted it to. Then a flood took it away from me.

Currently I use a Line 6 XT Pro set on the Double Show Amp, feeding a 6x10 SWR Cab without any cab simulation. Powered by a Crest CPX900. I get the tone I want. Plus I use that Big Muff for a light distortion sound, and boost the lows that seem to cut with the "EQ Pedal".

i play metal i have a mesa boogie fathom and i love it. its very simpole and the lows are out of this world almost to much. One thing bass players dont understand alot is that sometimes the more you turn down the lows the more lows you will get. I love this amp man at least look at it. and its 1000 bucks

This is exactly what I was thinking (and what Im doing!)... The Sansamp RPM with power amp would probably work well for you. It has a drive control that is gain and overdrive together, so that should make a grind tone if thats what your looking for. I dont play metal so Im going to be picking up a RBI soon to add to my rack.

I'll second that.

This thing is beast.

Sure, you can get a good power amp and preamp and get the same balls but I got fed up with carting and fiddling with a rack.

I'm using a 5 string Spector Fretless Euro NS and go for an overdriven tone with lots of low end.

The carvin growls/overdrives with the drive control while still remaining clear and articulate. No hiding of flaws in playing, at least with an articulate cab.

I use a smidge of BDDI for that darker colored voicing the unit gives (especially as I have a tweeter in the cab for now). If you want saggier browny sound this may not be the amp.
I use an English Muffn for heavier overdrive.

Eden WT550B amp, into an Eden 210XLT 4ohm and Eden 212XLT 4ohm. Runs my amp at 2 ohms for 750 watts. Top 210 cab gives me lots of punch growl and stage clarity. Bottom 212 gives me the gawd-awful rumble that makes my pants flutter in the breeze. Big fat juicy low end.

I use an Ibanez SR-305 fivestringer and a homemade bass with EMG P45's. The EMG's simply kill me with awesomeness. So much evil growl and snarl from that bass.

No effects, just a wireless unit and tuner.

Tonewise, works wonderfully with both bands. A world of difference from my muddy textureless Ampeg gear. I hear everything about my bass now, especially the mistakes!
