Btw, most strings do not actually measure exactly what they are "spec'd." So even if you could buy a "2.5 mm string" it likely won't measure exactly 2.5 mm.

It would be much easier to find a free app for your smartphone for converting between metric and imperial than to find "metric strings". This coming from a guy who lives in Canada, where most things are in metric.
A string has a diameter and it needs to meet your expectations. How that diameter is measured doesn’t change the string or make it metric imperial or whatever.
Instead of guage you should pay attention to Newtons of string tension (which can very depending on what ˚Kelvin it is).
An attempt at humor. Maybe some self irony. Earlier today i was searching for my set of imperial hex keys. For a long time. Got angry. Cursed everything imperial. Came to my senses and laughed at myself.

The manufacturers skip metric strings to streamline costs: Otherwise they'd have to stroke nuts at installation in metric spec'd slots, and you'd have to stock bass bridges with metric saddles. Never mind the pickup pole piece spacing, as the only place it seems to rear its head is when some guys talk about string spacing . . . . . . And of course, GHS, D'Addario, T-I, et al, would have to double their product range to sell metric strings. And forget 1/4 INCH input jacks . . . . .

That, actually, is a real problem. Imperial and metric hex keys aren't, typically, interchangeable.
You need to own both.

I’m not a fan of the metric.
Even though I drive a lot faster to the gigs at 100km per hour than I used to at 60mph it still takes about the same time.....

It`s a start. Now if they would just cal them "1143-2540" I would buy them in a heartbeat... Wait! No i would not. Kgs is a measurement for mass not tension. Better keep looking.
