So Musicians Friend is running their stupid deals of the day specials right now. 70% on all sorts of stuff including American Fender basses at crazy cheap prices. Is this legit? How can they possibly still have anything in stock at those prices?

I think many people are still wary of buying online, especially from MF.
Some good deals, occasionally, but I wonder how many basses they actually sell when it comes to any particular Stupid Deal.

MF/GC is an authorized dealer so why wouldn't it be? They've either cut a deal with Fender or they're blowing out items as loss leaders and hoping customers make up for it with additional purchases. This is not different from how Walmart, Amazon and other large volume sellers operate.
SDotD is one item a day. Their 'up-to-60%' sale is for July 4th, which they do every year, and most basses in the sale are 10-15% off. (And most basses aren't part of the sale.) I didn't see any Fenders that were 70% off the regular selling price (list prices don't count).
Selling is only half the equation. If buyers don’t want then buyers don’t want.
Also, clearing stock can be the goal. They’ve probably got new orders of inventory coming in and need a place to put that stuff.

I got better offers in April and May for the $539 Yamaha BB434 I was hoping to buy. In those two months two different eBay sellers (one of them Musician's Friend) sent me coupon-link to get the bass for $489 and $497 respectively.
As of today no one is selling the bass for less than the stated $539 and in fact this morning I received an email from Sweetwater (I had the bass sitting in my Cart for a while) warning me that the price might go up.
So that's why I'm not buying a bass. Not unless I can get a deal.
i got some fake MF ads on instagram today advertising 70% high end gear too. i think its a phishing scam piggy backing onto the fact theres lots of sales today already

I saw that fake ad too. I went as far as putting 4 items in my cart. When I tried to sign in I noticed it was musiciansfriendonline.com and not musiciansfriend.com. Total scam site.
