Micro bass head suggestion?

So, @FenrirofOld -- it appears you picked up the Microtubes 200! How do you like it? How is the power delivery, tone, etc? What cab are you running it into?

Also I am curious about the packaging. Was it brand new, sealed, retail box, etc? Is there any indication on the unit of where it was manufactured?

All the questions...
Heyo! Sorry I meant to update earlier! Yes I did end up snagging a Darkglass Microtubes 200. So far I am actually really digging it. I'm running essentially with the blend into the B3K side of the amp off, but not that it isn't fun to turn it over into that Darkglass distortion that they are known for haha. Even for the small size sound wise it doesn't come across like it is lacking power. I'm running it into a Mesa Boogie Subway 2x10 Cab which is rated for 600 watts at 8 ohms. The Microtubes powers it loud enough, and cleanly enough you could definitely damage your hearing haha. Would it keep up with a full band, probably not, but again I bought it to have a tiny head for practice around home.

Direct from Korg off Reverb, it showed zero signs of being a return or anything like that. I'm pretty sure it was even shrink wrapped. It claims in the booklet to be engineered and built in Helsinki Finland. Any other questions feel free to ask, I'm happy to answer what I can 😀

Great; thanks for the response! Sorry to be hung up on the packaging... did it come in a retail box that was shrink wrapped, or more like a plain box?

Also, I wonder if they're coming out with a new version (maybe adding a pre/post switch for the damn DI) or something, and that's why they're blowing these out.

I wondered that too. For the price of alot of pedals I have zero gripes. But I definitely wouldnt have paid the original ask on these. And no I get it, you don't want to get hosed. It was full retail packaging. 20240820_152204.jpg20240820_152208.jpg

T.C. Electronic BAM 200
Only $179 brandy new!
YES! I use one of these for rehearsal and smallish venues outdoors. They rock. They sound great as-is, but when used with my SushiBox pre-amp, the amp sounds like bigger than it really is. I am very impressed with the bang-for-the-buck with this amp. You would need a 1/4" to Speakon adapter / cable though.
For t he money, this is a great amp.

Because of this thread, and a martini or two, I ordered the DG 200 earlier this week and received it yesterday.

Plugged it into a Hydrive 1x12 and love the sounds. It'll do that DG thing (as I think of the bass sound on, say, the latest Bush record) but can also be clean and thumpy, or get a cool Ampeg-ish grind - surprisingly flexible, tons of fun, and quite loud as well as portable.

The packaging is cool, as well.

Can't wait to have my band's bassist use it to record with his Ray V.

Awesome! I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only one who thought it had some Ampeg esc tones in there! It is alot of fun to play through.

Me too, but it was beers and not martinis. Nothing against martinis, at all. So far, this thing is pretty cool and a hell of a lot lighter than my WT-300. I have not done a proper comparison between the two heads. I am especially interested in the practical difference between 100W RMS (DG) and 175W RMS (Eden) into this 8 ohm cabinet (Schroeder Mini 12+L).

More to come, but $200? Certainly not a bad move.

If I decide to sell it, I am sure the Trendy Darkglass Candy Factor will help move it quickly on CL or FB.

EDIT: Does anyone else's m200 knobs seem to be rubbing on the face? The Master does not as it is raised a bit due to the mute switch function.

Definitely looking forward to how you like it in general and also how the power differential affects its usefulness for your purposes.

I bet it'd sell here before you could even list it, and I'd even like to be first in line for it.

If they're like the knobs on the other amps they're just pressure fit and you can pull them away from the face a bit so they don't rub.

And if they're not, then loosening the retainer screws and pulling the knobs just enough away from the amp to eliminate the rubbing.
Yes, pressure fit and very easy fix which I performed.. but a little annoying.

I will provide data as soon as I can compile it. Your interest is also noted, though if I were you I'd just pick one up on Reverb for $199, lol. That's why I mentioned local sale. It wouldn't be cool to try and break even on the sale here on TB. Craigslist or FB Marketplace? I would feel better about breaking even on those platforms.

Ok, you will be disappointed in my lack of science here. I don't have the ambition to A/B the Microtubes 200 with my Eden WT-300 extensively.

The bottom line is that with my limited fussing around with the m200, I don't like the Gain/Distortion knob behavior. That is because I am not interested in playing with overdrive/distortion. I was hoping I could work with an input gain control to get what I wanted (which is clean), but I was not satisfied with the amount of power output / volume I get with going that way.

Grabbing the m200 for $200 from Korg on Reverb was extremely compelling and I had to satisfy my curiosity. I think it's a beautiful bit of kit for the money and as others have stated, there are some great sounds that can be had from it.

it's just not my thing. I have posted it locally on Craigslist since I'm not super into losing money by selling it on TB Classifieds for under $200 shipped and y'all should just get one from Korg on Reverb for $199 shipped.

My new compulsive agenda? Selling the Eden and the Darkglass and picking up a Magellan 350.

My MicroTube 200 just arrived today , and I'm loving it. Now , I'm not looking for a lot of distortion , but it's easy to just add a little warmth. I find it sounds full and rich , and the eq is surgical. It's easy to dial in. I had to spin the dials and check out the overdrive , but as I said just a little goes a long way for me. Beautiful little amp.
I'm a very happy camper.
Even dug out the old Ric to give her a spin. The little silver box is an old Yamaha NE-1 , I like how it fattens things up at very low volume. It's just a Pre with a notch filter , parametric eq.
