Micro Head racking solutions?

Hey mophead,

Yah, I still have a few of the 1/4" semi-ATA (non-recessed latches) that have not only done many manyb years of mainly weekend warrior service, but also some DIY touring. The main torsional and lateral strength of a rack actually comes from the units bolted to the rails, so unless you are doing severe major truck-pack tours - or trying to run 'em through with a forklift - it's all that is needed.

I got one of these:

Odyssey*3-Space Rack Bag - Find the largest selection and guaranteed lowest prices at Musician's Friend.

I have the Carvin BX500 (I know it's bigger than the MB) and also a power conditioner (I had it, you can't give those things away, so might as well use it). I got the 8 in 3-space and it works really well for me. You can take the 'rack' part out of the cover (or unzip the back), and since it is carpet covered and my cab is carpet covered, they hold together (I tend to tilt my cab up and the rack doesn't slide, as the carpets seem to 'lock') It also has a big front 'extention' for cables and such. I also comes in a 4-space (same depths)

just another suggestion

I'm always messing around with racking, bagging, cases, etc...I have moved on to an IEM rack with the ability to run some cabs if the venue or situation calls for it. Usually, I just set the amp on the corner of the drum riser and I'm good...

Requirements:
Hard case I can carry in one hand, and leave in the trailer and feel safe that it won't get crushed. It needs to hold a primary amp, backup amp, tuner, wireless, a couple of USB charging ports, be prewired (that was the main issue with not racking it in the past) and ultra quick setup (I just plug in the power, and the soundguy plugs in the DI).

I ended up using a 4U SKB effects rack that I had already, and purchased a $20 shallow shelf from Raxxas. It fits that case perfectly. On that, I racked both my GK micro amps with Velco. I use the MB500 as a primary. There is plenty of room for ventilation. Tuner out goes to a pitchblack tuner. I use a Line6 G30 wireless unit currently. I picked up a 3 plug extention cable from home depot for $9 and a $17 small travel surge strip with USB ports as well.

Weight is at 22 pounds. I wasn't going for a weight savings adventure or anything, but that shelf is heavier than it looks. Everything else is about as lightweight as it can be. I wanted some spacing under the shelf to hide and store cables for when I run cabs. These things are always a work in progress I guess, but it worked out well so far.

AFAIK, there is a company called Spectrum that makes custom cases. One for an Avalon U5 for sale here at TB a good while back was quoted as costing $150.

This seems about right based upon other comments here re: other companies that will do this. These will always cost more as they just won't sell all that many of them unless the mini thing really takes over.

I think that making your own (or having a competent buddy do so) is a viable alternative that should cost less and be exactly what you need.
