I recently purchased a pair of Yamaha DXR8 mk2. I bought the pair as just 1 odd aoeaker laying about doesn't work for me... My primary use is as a practice, travel and campfire device supporting bass, guitar and vocals. When campfire, power will be from an ecoflow delta if shore power is not available. I travel either a van or travel trailer towed behind my pickup. Either way... space and cargo weight are limited. The Yamaha's fit the bill.
I gigged one outside yesterday in my electro'coustic trio thing. Winery garden. Mains were my 2 Yamaha DLX1K. Mixed on an Allen & Heath Zed. The spec sheet for the DXR8 says 10 db down at 57. I gve a slight low end boost to compensate and was impressed at how well it did. I was playing my Schecter Banshee mini P bass and Ibanez UB-804 EUB.
I'm very pleased at how the little Yamaha 8" box did.
I was very deep into QSC for a long time. I did not loke the changes they made with the K series .2 versions. I think Yamaha is essentially occupying the 'pro-sumer' category leader spot that was QSC's place 10 years ago. Long warranties, well developed service network, broad product line, good dealer network.
I now have 2 or their DSX subs, 2 DLX1k column arrays, the new little 8" speakers and 5 of their DHR-12M powered wedges - which aren't good for bass but are exceptional as vocal and general instrument wedges, best available in a wedge format under about 2k IMO. I'm down to just 1 QSC PLX amp...
If ypu could afford the space, the DLX1K is awesome as a full range speaker. I often run just the speaker array and the sub at home and leave the column extensions off. The sub is a 12" though and so the box takes some space. Not huge but way more than the little 8"
