micro pog

I just got mine in the mail today. I have been messing around with it for about an hour.

First off, it tracks just about perfectly. I'm not sure what perfect is, but this has to be as close as it gets (next to an actual POG?). It seems to do chords well, as advertised, from my limited time with it. The knobs adjust the desired effects in a very linear fashion. The Wet/Dry mix knob allows for further tweaking and some really unique sounds. You can do some really rad things with it, or you can use it to add some subtle girth to your tone. I got some really nice sounding results running it in front of my Bad(der) Monkey. The instruction sheet that came with it (no real manual was included) claims that you can get organ sounds by using both the sub octave and octave up in conjunction with a volume pedal. I haven't tried that yet, but it sounds like fun.

The thing that really struck me is how different the pedal sounded with three different basses I tried with it (a Jag, a P and an Ibanez RKB900). It really seems to utilize the unique harmonic qualities of the instrument, particularly when you use the octave up and a pick.

Sorry I can't compare it to an actual POG. I've never had the pleasure of trying one out. But I like this Micro POG a lot.

I didn't notice any hum, hiss or unwanted noise whatsoever. However, if I am able to get some sound lips recorded, that will be a better gauge I would think.

Also, fwiw, I am powering it in a chain that is fed from my Boss TU-2. It came with it's own power adapter, but the literature that came with it says that it can be powered with a Boss type 9v adapter.

Not surprising - the #1 Echo is the same way; it comes with an EHX adapter, too, but can still be powered with any 9V Boss-style power supply.

It comes with an adapter for two reasons:

#1 - it doesn't use batteries. Gotta power it somehow!

#2 - it's digital, so the current draw is much higher than what you'd see on your typical analog pedal.

But all-in-all... those of us using decent power supplies can power these babies without using that provided wall wart at all :smug:

It's going to be tough for me to get anything up until next week. I'll be out of town from Friday and Sunday and I'm scrambling to get things done before I leave. Hopefully somebody else will put something up before I get back. If not, I'll definitely get some clips up when I get back.

In the meantime, let me just say this: if a easy-to-use octaver that doesn't suck is what you seek, your short list is probably going to start (and end) with the Micro POG.

I got mine last week. holiday weekend plus work/baby meant I haven't had time to do clips yet, but I will soon if cmhgreg doesn't.

I like it a lot. One minor thing, which is more a problem of my expectations than anything else: I had hoped I could maybe use it to replace a regular octaver and get some additional functionality in one box.
That was an unrealistic expectation, it'll do a good enough octave below to thicken the sound, but not really usable on it's own without dry signal. I sometimes use an octaver with 0% dry/100% effect for synth bass like sounds - the ebs octabass does this quite nicely but the micro pog octave below sound on it's own isn't thick enough. Again, it's probably not meant to do that but just a minor niggle for me.

It would be really great if you could make sound clips, demonstrating the only below octave sound, and the effect+dry sound, and upper octave, and all variables! :)
Actually, I think this pedal is to add thickness to the sound, at least I haven't used any octaver to have just the effect sound. They are not so accurate like that.

mr. wilson! did you notice any noise? the OG POG hisses terribly while it's on. i was hoping they'd rectify this issue with the new design.
