Mid-90's Ampeg 810e

Hi

I'm looking for my first 'fridge'...one I have a bead on is a '98. Am I right in thinking this is pre "dark" era (2000-2006) but might be or is OSB (after 96, right)? If it's OSB it'll weigh more too, in addition to the potential moisture issues.

Any consensus on how ones from this era sound?

I believe my SVT-810E is a 1997 model, although I haven't tried to verify this. Mine is made from OSB (visible where there is some vinyl damage). The sound is definitely not dark, and I've received lots of compliments on the sound from this cabinet. I looked at a new Classic Series (non-Heritage) SVT-810E, before buying my cabinet, and I couldn't tell any significant difference in the sound.

Even though I'm not crazy about the OSB construction, due to concerns about long term durability, I absolutely love the sound. I would recommend the 810E to virtually anyone who wants a classic sound and doesn't mind handling a large, heavy cabinet. I also own a pair of Carvin BRX 2x10 cabinets, for when I need something more portable and/or modern sounding. I've had the 810E for almost a year, and I still smile every time I fire it up.
