MiM (Player) vs. Squier question

So I own a Player Jazz, Player Plus P/J and a Squier Jazz.

This question is about the Jazz basses: My white MiM Player Jazz is by far my favorite. It's sounds amazing and much better IMHO than my Player Plus P/J that cost twice as much. I picked up a Squier Jazz on the cheap as a backup/extra bass. It sounds like crap compared to the MiM.

They're both slabs of wood with the same bridge, etc....is it all in the pickups?! Anyone know if I just buy the same pickups that come with the Player Jazz and stick them in the Squier, will it sound the same, or am I missing something?

I'd like to pick up another Player MiM jazz, but if I can just swap pups, that's less $$. Thanks for any advice!

Pic for attention.
