MIM Precision Bass - diasappointed!

Just read through the GC return policy. Aside from excessive returns, I don't see where it violates a legal contract of any sort - assuming you return them in the condition they were received. Again, I don't agree with the practice of ordering just to mess around with a bass. But I don't see the issue if you ordered and returned several basses before finding the one that suits you...
You are correct - I hadn't read this prior to my comment, or their terms of sale. It is technically not a violation of these contracts. But that doesn't really matter, since it is also technically fraud.

If you don't like it and decide to return it, that's one thing, I've done that. OP stated that he bought it and never intended on keeping it. That's just wrong.

Agreed, the big difference is in the intent to actually keep a purchase...

Exactly. And the intent is what makes it fraud.

There's nobody in this thread who hasn't screwed up more than once in their lives, especially musicians, so I would suggest everyone get off their high horse. I know I'm no innocent lamb. But we grow up and learn from our mistakes. For crimini's sake would it hurt any of you to try and teach someone something instead of tearing them up???

Why? OP is not unaware of what he is doing - he is making a practice of ordering multiple instruments with no intent to keep them. That is by basic logic a drain on business, and it is just plain dumb and off-putting to come on TB and brag about it. Sorry for having morals and ethics.

How about forgiveness and teaching someone a better way?
OP's post offended me a great deal, and I have no interest in teaching him, since he clearly is not inexperienced at this scam. I'll save that for my kids. As to forgiveness - I am not the one to forgive in this situation. He has not wronged me, except indirectly.

The OP's post didn't offend me at all. Because he is doing exactly over there what thousands of people that shop off Amazon and other online sites here do all day long.

Order stuff and return it.

On Amazon and other online sites you get to write a review and why you returned your piece of crap, for everybody to read...

Looks like he got a lemon "Friday" Fender P. I would return that particular bass.

Good for you. Since thousands do it, it must be fine. Don't bother thinking for yourself.

It offended me as much for its idiocy as for the actual intent to return, btw. To come on TB and start complaining about a product one has no intention of keeping...strikes me as the height of stupidity. Different strokes, I guess.

OP said that there were no music shops where he lives. So this is the only way he gets to "try" a bass. ( "Try before you buy" so often recommended here btw).
By ordering one in.

People on TB do that all the time and then post thumbs up or thumbs down.

Clearly the bass he got it is a piece of crap.

Just highlights the "hit or miss" aspect of the game.

Give me a break. See above. It’s not like he wanted a MIM Precision, and if it was in good quality and he liked how it played he would have kept. He literally stated he never had any intention of keeping it.

Meh. I try out basses all the time in stores just to see what the "ra ra" is about even though I didn't buy one and didn't intend to.

I've also bought basses and returned them.

I've also read a ton of reviews on here where people didn't like the bass they ordered.

People take cars for test drives all the time just to see what they're like with no intention of buying them..

Bizarre Guitar is one of my favorite stores to buy from. They recently updated their return policy because of this type of foolishness. Good for them for implementing a restocking fee. Maybe others will follow suit. New return policy is:

For returns. If the item is not as described, we will pay the shipping back to us. Unfortunately, we have had quite a few instances of buyers just wanting to try out the item. If that is the case, we can't lose the shipping costs associated with the transaction, so the buyer would have to pay shipping back to us and when we receive the item in the same condition we shipped it in, we will refund the payment minus our original shipping cost. Also, we don't want you to buy a guitar that you are not happy with, and we understand that sometimes guitars and players just do not bond. We are having a lot of returns lately for no reason. This gets very expensive and frustrating from our stand point. We are out the shipping plus the time it takes to receive the item back and relist it, plus we lose all the original potential buyers that were watching the item. We are going to have to start charging a 10% restocking fee on top of the shipping to cover our costs and lost time. We will gladly work with you on this, but if you are just sending the guitar back because you wanted to try it out, we can't accept a straight return on it. If you want to trade it back on something else we will definitely work with you on voiding the restocking fee. Thank you for understanding.

I can’t even. That’s not the same thing at all. I’ve said my piece, good luck to all of you.

You americans are the pot calling the kettle black with this so called "unethical" talk haven't read a history book lately I presume.......... silly americans

This has nothing to do with politics - it has to do with OP's actions. If he were in the US and did the same thing, people would be saying the exact same thing (as we have in other threads).

Nice try though.

You guys in the USA don't know how lucky you are on gear prices. Over here we pay in Euros or GBP what you pay in dollars plus at least an additional 25% in import duties and taxes.

I am looking to buy a G&L Kiloton, I have seen them for about $1200 in the USA. In Europe they are 1500 GBP or 1600 Euros, if you can find one! (The only one I can find is at Thomman.)

I'm not getting into the debate on returning gear other than to say that is how Thomman operate. I knew a guy who wanted a preamp, he ordered 2, tried them and returned the one he didn't want.

Pay tends to be lower, so gear prices are a double whammy. Even more so, I'm paid 20% less in real terms than eight years ago, which is tending to cure me of GAS. Hence getting a £100 Harley Benton for a knock around bass.
