Minimal headphone practice setup?

Over the years I've used lots of little battery-powered gadgets with typical headphones, and none of them were much good for me: Little headroom, not much tone control for the bass or the program material, and IF there's some WalMart headphones that are worth a damn for bass, I never found them.

So once and for all I bought a Mackie 1202VLZ mixer and Audio Technica AT40fs and now I can hear myself properly. Headroom for days, 1 watt headphone out that will drive any phones out there, and patching and tone control for days. So a good baby mixer and real headphones would be my recommendation.

Rolls PM50se. Lots of ways to hook up what you need. Runs on your standard center negative DC power supply that most pedals use.

I was looking into this Rolls unit to hook my Tech 21 Bass Fly Rig into. Would the XLR of the Fly Rig be too much for the rolls to handle and distort? My old Zoom B3 XLR out made the Rolls fart like crazy even with the Mic Level way down. Also I take it the monitor input of the unit could handle an AUX unit like a phone, ipad, etc?

Did you have the input set to mic or line? It makes a huge difference as to which one you use. Every preamp I've ever run through it sounds clean and loud at 50% volume with the right setting.

I just got the PM50se and it turns out the issue I had with my old one was it didn’t have the MIC/LINE switch. Plugged the fly rig into the XLR, set it to line level and it was perfect!
