'Minty' arghhhhh....

The thing that grinds my gears is the incessant use of the fake word minty in the classified section.

First of all, is about as bad as commercials for fast food that use the fake word melty to describe cheese.

Second of all, nothing second-hand can be classified as mint. Once the strings hit a fret and leave a mark, it's no longer pristine. Even new-in-box may be riddled with factory defects.

And the word minty just sounds so cheesy. Wait... that's melty.

End of rant.

Had I balked at the word 'minty' I'd be at a distinct loss.

Just because you may ignore it on occasion in search of a good deal, does not mean it's not still stupid and annoying.

Anyway, yeah, mint just means used/owned but as new. How much latitude that involves is usually based on how old the thing is. If it's a year old bass, it better have come home in the box and stayed there until 5 minutes ago in a climate controlled space. If it's a 60 year old les paul or something, it would probably be in WORSE shape if it had just been in the factor box in someone's closet all that time. So the finish may be ever so slightly faded, or there might be the slightest mark somewhere. It becomes sort of like IQ, it's based on the other examples. The further ahead of the pack you are and the longer you last, the more likely to be described as mint.
