Mismatched silks

I can definitely hear the mismatched silks!

Package of CM3050Ms just received. VERY unattractive.

The lighter purple came with a different style of envelope markings as well (the one on the right).

And of course I didn’t notice until I had already installed the G and D strings, and pulled out the A – so I can’t swap the set for another. And I have to install the A to get the bass playable and set up for practice.

First world problems, I know…but still unacceptable that GHS would let these sets out of the factory, IMO. I noticed it immediately.

Some will say the mismatched silks are irrelevant, but I feel your pain! I would say string it up and see if you can get over it, or get used to it so it doesn't bother you. And if you can't get used to it - time to find different strings?

I strung it up, because I’m not going to let the bass sit defunct until I can square this issue away. The strings feel and sound perfect, as expected, but that’s beside the point. I am hoping to track down a newer style dark purple A string through the retailer or manufacturer.

It’d be a lot less of an annoyance if these were rounds, which get flattened out by the frets and need to be replaced periodically, say once a year. I’d probably just live with it for a year, in that case. But this set of strings could be there for decades. I still play on a set of flats that I installed on my other Stingray in 1988, and they’re doing just fine.

I will go on record, that if the mismatched silks is something that you spend energy attempting to rectify for yourself then I applaud you.

You have a great life with no real issues happening and I think that is great.

Bravo, you winning over %99.9 of the world.

I don't consider that OCD. It's basic aesthetic common sense.

I wouldn't accept one tire our of four that was slightly gray, just because Michelin changed their "black" dye supplier mid-stream. I'd expect them and/or their retailers to group batches of four in an aesthetic match, if such a supply situation occurred. It's up to the manufacturers and retailers to anticipate such supply issues, and enforce some sort of aesthetic standards in response.

I don't love or hate either of these purples; I just want uniformity.

Three sets of Chromes just arrived in the mail ..... all have a mismatched A string. I wouldn't mind so much if only they hadn't picked a really dumb kinda-bright mid blue. Anyway, feel free to feel my pain until early 2025, at least.

Have decided to put these strings on a short scale bass, which will hide the issue, switch brands on the Music Man, and only return to GHS once their silks match. I do love Precision Flats, but there are other brands out there that provide basically the same performance.
