Mixer to computer questions

So working on building a small home studio after recording on a 4 track four a while now.

I'm a little confused by everything and basically want to know if I had a mixer like this:
Invalid Link Removed

Would I be able to go through USB and record in seperate tracks in Cubase or Pro Tools. I've only ever recorded to one track at a time.

Would I need some other type of interface?

From reading through the manual... (Invalid Link Removed) it looks like it only sends a stereo signal to the USB, not individual tracks.

If you want a console type interface like that, you need something more like this: Invalid Link Removed. If you're recording more than 1 or 2 tracks at a time you definitely will want a firewire or PCI interface. USB doesn't have enough bandwidth.

What kind of computer do you have (desktop/laptop, speed, ram, firewire port, mac/pc)? What recording equipment do you have now (mixer, mics, direct boxes)? How many inputs are you recording at once?

I don't even use a mixer with my home setup, I do everything in software (Cubase). Are you sold on the console type interface or do you care?

If you need to use multiple inputs simultaneously (i.e. record a live band all at one hit), your interface is generally going to cost more than if you get a simple single or twin input device.

There are many questions that you need to ask yourself before you buy anything. Don't rush into it. Sweetwater.com is a good place to start and to ask
