Mixing brands.

I've been mixing them for a long time. I've done swr heads with peavey cabs, swr with ampeg, Harke amp with peavey cabs. That's aside from the matching setups. A lot of times it works out great. I really like my swr 750 head through my ampeg classic 410he(also had an 810e. Both combinations seem to complement each other better than my swr head and swr 610 do. I pretty much use ampeg cabs exclusively these days as they just last longer. All the other cabs I've owned only lasted a couple years. But I've owned ampeg classic cabs for up to a decade with no problems

I could see those two pieces of gear being perfect compliments to each other.

Not a problem, I use a Tech21 head preamp into a Markbass F1 power section out to a Eden 4/10. Wow sound awesome.

I'm a caveman when it comes to cabs and amps and I don't have any OCD so I've always mixed different brands, usually GK or Ampeg heads with any old cab (I've had Peavey, Aguilar, Fender, Sunn, Ampeg and now run an Ashdown, most of my favourite cabs cabs were 215 though).

One of the most popular combinations during the late 1980's- early 1990's was the GK 400RB + Hartke 410XL. My bass teacher's favorite rig, it packed quite a punch.

I never think of amps and cabs at the same time...I look for the best amps for me and the best cabs for me and it just so happens it's rarely the same brand

IMHO there are a lot of great amps out there, but very few cabs worth bothering with. The majority of those cabs are manufactured by companies that only build cabs and do not offer amps.

So what's your point? People who build amps have some mystical knowledge about building cabs? What amps are available from Greenboy and fEARful? I'm glad I bothered with my Bergantinos.

Strangely worded, but I'm pretty sure that's not what he meant...

It does seem like some great amp companies build cabs as an after thought, where dedicated cab builders (like Berg) seem to do a better job at it.
