<- my face when told I HAD to play the riff, but I try and keep it to a minimum (it doesn't flow well at all, and if I had wanted to play basslines other people wrote I would be in a cover band).the bass was too woofy and thick at times, eq down the 100hz zone to brign in some clarity, also bring in some of the upper mids on the bass, those nice melodic lines need to come out a bit more. This song could really benefit from more movement by the bass
there is a a bit of a disconnect from the boxy sound of the drums the overly rounded bass, the overdriven guitar and the vocals, it needs to gel better
if the vocals weren't so spirited I would say recut the whole thing up a few bpm, there were a few voice timing and intonation issues, but I thought they were minor relative to the honesty of the performance
if you do recut it, get your drum sound down before moving on.
What is your recording chain? converters,,pres, mics etc?
