Mixing wav drops - your suggestions

I'm working with a new guy who'd love to have wav drop snippets10 seconds between songs

I've considered an iPod or laptop

With out firing up full ableton etc---- how/what do radio morning show guys use to do this

If you have a soft wavetable soundcard, you can load the samples up as Soundfonts (or whatever) and trigger them with a keyboard or Launchpad.
