So, modelers are an awesome idea in theory, although I have almost no practical experience. Has anyone found a modeler that fully satisfies the need for bass? My meaning is that the modeler is the only thing in the signal chain between the bass and FOH? I’m assuming a floor form-factor, and not concerned with stage monitoring whether by IEM or backline amp.

This has been my setup for months across many gigs and sessions. The Anagram is the only thing providing signal processing.

I've seen many bass players use them and they seem happy. Myself included.

The question is, what you do need from that modeler or multi?
They range from fairly simple (like a Boss ME-90B or the Helix Pod Go Bass) to more complex but still bass orientated (Zoom B3, B2Four, MS60B (+), Zoom B6, Anagram etc) to fully fledged do-it-alls like the Helix stomp/stadium series, Quad-Cortex, Headrush, Fractal Audio and the like.

Each have their own pros and cons and all have very happy users.

I could absolutely be satisfied and get through any gig on bass with only my AM4, despite how few bass specific rigs it has. There are A LOT of guys out there using the Anagram lately.

I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do, but last night I used my Boss SY-1000 for a gig and it certainly has more than enough sounds for anything I ever do... too much, if I'm being honest, it's kind of overwhelming.

Previously I have been fine with just a Zoom B1four, but for this gig I wanted an organ and synth lead option for a few songs where another bassist was sitting in - it was either that or I carried a guitar to play leads.

I'd probably be better off with an SY-300 and a simple bass preamp, but that ends up being bigger and more expensive than just keeping the SY-1000 - even if I only use a small fraction of its capabilities. I don't even use the 13-pin input.

For me it’s having enough useful settings that have grit/OD and sufficient control over EQ, compression, and HPF/LPF. A few useful effects would be a bonus.

Ok, I took a leap and pre ordered the Line 6 Helix Stadium (non XL version).

I figure that if the cloning works as it should, then I might be able to get some semblance of what I already have with my pedals by cloning them, and then can add whatever’s in the box from there.

Has the Proxy feature (proprietary capture) been included? I thought it was still a work in progress.

I think you’re correct. It probably won’t be available at launch. It’s “just on the horizon” which is fine. I’ll probably spend a while figuring out everything else and then when cloning becomes available it will be an additional capability instead of the first thing I spend all my time on.

Hopefully “the horizon” isn’t a euphemism for Christmas and we’re not sure which year.
