I’m in the process of beating a Squier VM Jaguar fiver into shape. Love the bass, but have now replaced P pickup with a Fender Am. Std. (big improvement) and ditched the funky bass boost circuit etc. and dropped a Sadowsky 4-knob preamp in (overkill perhaps, but ooo-WEEE!) I tried a Fender std jazz pup but I can’t say it sounds much different from the original. My gold standard PJ is my 71 P with an early 80s Dimarzio. Would like to get a similar tone from the J pickup. Hum canceling preferred but could live without. I play finger style on roundwounds and cover a lot of styles. I like to be able to dig in near the bridge and get a percussive attack when needed, haven’t quite gotten that from the J pups I’ve tried.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.
