Modified Epi Toby4, three P'up bass.

Hi y'all,

After reading a lot here and there, I finally took a leap of faith and started ravaging an otherwise pretty decent bass.
It really is my first attempt at something like this. I already changed the P'ups on my Warwick Dolphin Pro2, and it kind of crept up on me, so instead of butchering my Warwick, I thought I could give it a try on a "budget" basis.
I bought for 50€ a neck and body of an Epiphone ProIV Deluxe.
It was bare stripped.
I quickly decided to mess around and had my luthier to make a third hole for a Jazz P'up.
I sanded the body just a bit, then tried to put on a blue polish cream on . Didn't work too good.

So I sanded it again, and tried to apply some primer coat.

But the primer almost fell off (it was a very old bottle I had. )

SOoooo, a Re re sanded it and went for bomb painting. Blue, black and blue.
And, OF COURSE, I ran out of blue paint...

But I finally managed to have an almost not too shabby look on the front side.
So I put on the Tree Of Life Stickers and bolted the neck to see if it was OK.

As for the electronics :
Three DiMarzios UltraJazz (yes, I know, loud :))
With 500k PushPull volume for each (so I can mess with the phases of each P'up)
One 500k tonality with an OrangeDrop Condenser 22µF (not sure if it is really that much of a difference, but it looks cool)
Gotoh GB707 Tuners
and a gorgeous Babicz bridge.

Not to much success with this thread - although after looking at hte other threads this bass kinda looks poopy and not worthy, I have to admit :-)

Anyway, near completion after receiving the stuff from Banzaï music :
The three DP148 are fitting just nice, and the drillings of the OEM bridge are the same as the Babicz (thank you Fender Standards on an Epiphone bass :-) )

The Gotoh are direct replacemetn also, no need to drill other screw holes... except that I did not like the "right" tuners placement. I tried an angled, Warwick style and did not like it either.
So my 10yo son finally found the solution :

I shileded and grounded the cavities for th p'ups, and grounded the bridge, ans installed the P'ups.
Tonight will be the soldering and wiring, but I couldn't resist and put some strings on already.

That looks pretty cool! Definitely coloring outside the lines there. I always thought the classic Tobias body shape was both very pretty and very ergonomic (I played one for many years, and still have it and love it), so that's a win. And the finish looks better than you might think it does. Good choice of pickups and hardware, too. Not a fan of those knobs, though...

Don't worry about whether or not it looks perfect, get out there and rock that thing!
