Modular Bass Amp?

Hi All,
Curious about your thoughts and if anyone else is taking this approach. I get to put it through it's paces tomorrow night. I like the idea of being able to swap out preamps, DI's, and compressors as I see fit.

My take on it:

Way more cabling than I'm comfortable with on a gig. I understand the sonic benefits. Too bad it's not well suited for rack mounting. A racked rig like this might be heavy, but I've used them before.

I use a tube preamp into the effect return of a Class D head , it changes the sound from transparent modern hifi to an old school warm thick tubey sound. And it doesn't weigh eighty pounds.

Many gigs I can get by with a single 8 ohm cab , I have two for outdoor or larger gigs.

I can understand your hesitation. Luckily, my bass' onboard pre pushes the power amp plenty if I ended up in a "freak out" situation, but I've been running a pedalboard in the same fashion for years and haven't run into anything major. I think I went this direction because there are so many preamps in pedal format these days.

I bet that sounds amazing. I always second guess having sold my Monique Tardis. Sounded amazing, but I actually wanted a little more power than the 800 watts. Might try out a Simone one of these days...

Interesting approach, I have a Blackstar Dept 10 dual drive at the end of my chain. I just switched from going into the instrument input on my Rumble 100 to the return of the effects loop. That should bypass the pre on the Rumble, correct? I should be able to get more of the tube distortion by running channel 2 on the Blackstar in OD mode and turning the gain up. Sounds better already

I don't have any experience with the Rumble, but I believe that is the behavior of most amp heads' effects loops. That's pretty much when I decided to got the direction when I realized I'm just bypassing everything except the power on my heads.

I have an MXR 10 band, Art tube preamp/compressor and Jay Ganz straight ahead on a small pedalboard. Cost a little over $400 to put together and sounds great, 500w with all the bells and whistles I need to get through a gig

I have one Jay Ganz and NUX or Palmer are the staple. I like these preamps because of the IR on the NUX and cab sim and FX loop on the Palmer and they both have DI. I just got a SushiBox Particle Acc, so I may put that in front -- I also use a Ultrawave (mainly compressor and the HPF and sometimes get my drive from it). I use with my low volume volume gigs - Usually a 4 ohm EA Whizzy
