The Mad Professor Electric Blue Chorus is a wonderful chorus "for those who don't really like chorus". I highly recommend it. It is simple, minimalist, and sounds great!

Modulation for a Minimalist?

I don't know where you got this but I'm in love with it.
After looking at phasers, I decided to give the Retro-Sonic a try and, man, is it good. I don't have a script 90 to do an A/B, but this thing gives me the exact (i.e. classic) sounds I was after. The volume knob is actually a great feature, and allows me to fine tune my signal level when I kick the phaser on. It's clean, it's rich, and it's phasey. What more could I want?
For chorus, I'm very happy with the Analogman mini chorus with deep mod and blend control. It's just got "that" sound.

If you're looking MXR check out the Phase 100, love that thing on bass!
For easy breezy chorus, Boss CE2-b is a good cheap one, it gets you that classic chorus sound and has a level knob, which you pretty much have to turn all the way up, but it gets to unity!

I like that one too, although someone here posted that it sucks your tone when off and I saw a YouTube video that seems to back that up (on guitar anyway), which has me second guessing it.
The other chorus I like for subtle is the old Boss CE-2B. I think the newer Boss CEB-3 is also good. I demoed both the MXR Analog Chorus and Boss CEB-3 and thought they both sounded good and went with the MXR because it was cheaper (at the time - actually I found a used like new one).
My personal preference for chorus is basically one subtle sound (80's type of chorus), so I don't need the extremes that many offer.
Interesting notion about the tone suck. I never noticed anything but then again I never AB'd going through the pedal with bypassing it completely. So there could be something to the claim. I'll have to check that out.
I used one for a while and also did not notice any tone suck, and I am pretty sensitive to it.
Like others I wanted to recommend the Jam Waterfall Bass or the Boss CE2 Waza because they sound great , retain low end, are easy to use and very well built.
Unfortunately, these are not made in the USA.

This might not be minimalist or made by Merkins, but after going through pedals by Boss, Jam, MXR and others I've more or less finalised the modulation options I have with these three little marvels. All excellent and very reasonably priced, too.

MXR® DEEP PHASE™
If that's not "script" enough for you, nearly every 4 stage phase pedal out there is a script copy. Find one with the extra controls you want.
I like Phasers and Delays, and use the VFE Tractorbeam V3, and the MXR Carbon Copy Mini.
Check out the VFE Tractorbeam's latest version if you don't mine used. It's an MXR on steroids with a clean-mix knob
It's more a depth knob than a mix knob. Something like the old Mojo Hand Nebula 4 would have a third knob for mix.
Well out of the myriad options I pulled the trigger on a Grand Orbiter. Won't be here for a week or so, so I'll report back once I have a proper go with it!
Hoping that the three-way switch gives me decent options on the slow & fast rate settings as well as the middle LFO kill.
I could see trying the vibrato setting on guitar but if I can get just one or two usable, groovy settings for bass I'll be quite happy.
If not, I'll try another one!
