Modulus FU vs. EBMM SR

I was completely turned off by modulus. Tried to contact them through email, phone, fax, etc and couldn't get a reply, couldn't leave voicemail, email bounced. So based on their terrible customer service I'll never look at them again. The Flea 5 was a nice bass, but I think I prefer the tone of a EBMM SR5.

Modulus' CS SUCKS. That is a fairly well know fact to anyone who knows Mods but it has nothing to do w/how amazing their basses are.
Apparently they are good to you if a warranty issues arises but if it's anything else...you better know someone there.
It wouldn't stop me from buying another Mod.

What don't you like about the SR tone? My impression when playing them was that while they were very close, the modulus had a little more modern and scooped sound, and a bit brighter too. Not necessarily a bad thing, but just a little different. You may hear it differently though.

I've owned 2 stingrays, 2 stingray 5s, and a sterling, along with a Modulus Flea J5, and standard Flea.

I liked the 5-string Stingrays more then the Modulus 5s, and the Sterling felt fast and easy compared to the Modulus.

But

Comparing the Flea to a standard stingray 4, I liked the Modulus. It was tight, chimed like a piano, and the neck never had to be adjusted so the setup was consistent year round. Some of my best recordings were done with the Flea.

If you want more growl and chime go with the Modulus, you'll also have less to adjust once you get it dialed.

Stingrays have a classic tone to them so you can't go wrong with a good MM either.

I had a modulus flea 5 and I have a sr5. I just now sold the modulus. I loved the bass, but I liked the tone of the sr5 better. Like it was said earlier, the modulus and a more scooped eq to it's tone, and pretty bright on the top end and a bit more HiFi. But it has great clarity and growl. I like the sr5 because it has more of a natural classic tone.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I have played 1 5string flea bass modulus and it was ok I'm not comfortable playing a 5er yet so I didn't get an awesome feel for how it worked. The Ray tone to me really lacks low end/mid low for me. I just didn't connect with it at all, I think it was to bitey for me. But yeah I've read there customer service isn't to bad so I'm kind of surprised at that. Oh well, I own a Warwick so bad customer service isn't a stranger for me :P
