Maybe I'm just late to the game for this app, but how many have you have utilized it? I downloaded it for the track isolation function, and it has absolutely blown my mind. Being able to single out the bass parts for tunes accurately will save me so much time.

If you have not tried it out yet, I highly recommend you do. The clarity so far for the bass tracks has been amazing. So much easier to learn tunes this way.

Plenty of DAWs have plugins that rip stems, and some have it integrated now, like Apple's free GarageBand.

Moises is well regarded, but if you're also interested in guitar/piano transcription Yamaha last month released the Extrack mobile app with similar pricing. (The free tier does track separation of up to 4 instruments and lets users process up to 5 songs/month. For $6/month or $40/yr you can process unlimited songs and up to seven instruments.)

I have been using Moises for years...it just keeps getting better!

Ha ha, so funny, I'm using Logic, and I didn't know I could do this directly within Logic, I used to go to Moises.ai, download the separated tracks and then import them in Logic, what a waiste of time, thank you!

In terms of quality, both work great, but I think I prefer what Logic does, slightly.

Fl studio has their own version as well, I tried it on For Whom the Bell Tolls, it failed. I imagine it would probably work fine on any song where the bass stays in its own lane in the mix, though I havent tried yet.

Apple added stem splitter to Garageband and Logic summer '24, I think. It was only added a few days ago to Ableton Live (which is what I mainly use on my Mac). There have been many plugins offering this for a few years (I've used Serato Sample 2, and I own an old and now near-useless version of Izotope RX) but now that it's a feature built into the most popular DAWs those plugins will need to step up their abilities, or add features, to remain viable.

But Moises and Extrack are unique in that they're designed for mobile and for practicing musicians (as opposed to remixers) who want to create backing tracks.

I’ve been using Moises for a while to do my bass covers. It dos a really good job as long as the bass line is clear and stays “bassy” 😄 I usually just buy the songs I’m covering but I think you can use YouTube tracks as well. Here’s a cover I did in the past….I send the track minus bass to my old Boss BR1600 and record it on a channel. Do my own bass part on a separate channel and mix to taste. Not the most efficient or up to date way to do it but works for me.

If you're subscription-phobic like me (LOL), you could try Song Master Pro - one time purchase. It's loaded with features, and once purchased you're entitled to all updates. Not affiliated - just a happy customer.

I just feed a song from Tidal or Spotify to my Zoom H6, then feed it to Moises.ai for separation. Fast and works great. I then use it to learn the tune and usually to remix with me on bass. I have dozens of songs I've done this with. Usually upload them with video to Vimeo to share with friends.

I use Moises daily. Aside from being a good practice tool, it's just a lot of fun. Wish this had existed 20 years ago when I was getting started!

I've uploaded some songs that I own one way or another (old iTunes purchases, CDs, etc.), but it's also pretty easy to use software like yt-dlp to grab audio files and upload them into the app. Feel free to DM me if you have questions about how to use it.

I record my band's rehearsals on my phone (a Galaxy S10), sitting on a music stand by me. I'm loud, obviously, but you can hear everyone pretty solidly. So I use Moises to remix these rehearsal tracks lol Usually that just means bringing me down, and bringing the guitar up a bit. Once or twice I pulled them into Audacity to enhance things a bit. They're still rough, but it's fun for the band to get to focus on the whole performance later, especially if we have a really fun take. Sometimes I'll remove tracks if someone wants to use practice over a backing track. For a free tool (I never need more than the limited tracks per month) it's incredible.
