Mojo

Mojo to a musical instrument is like the force in Star Wars.

It can be developed into something greater over time, but it has to be in there from the start. I have picked up a couple of mint, like new instruments that had TONS of mojo. I've even pulled them out of the factory box with mojo.

Mojo is simply the indefinable combination of tone, feel and general appeal that has the ability to draw the very best from the player.

Mojo has to be player compatible. If the mojo doesn't connect with you, you aren't going to connect with the mojo.

...I'd "blame" Morrison instead of Muddy for its misuse...

I wouldn't blame anyone for it's misuse, it's just one of those words that sounds cool so people use it and use it and use and use it.

It's like dude. It's so overused and in so many ways, everyone you ask would give you a different definition for it.

QUOTE=two fingers;14873410]An instrument's mojo will connect with you when you hold it. It is not automatically an old instrument. I used to work at a music store. I would tell my customers "We don't pick basses. They pick us." In many ways it is true. I once missed out buying an average ordinary wine MIM Fender Jazz. I hung on the wall of our store for weeks. But MAN did it play GREAT. I wouldn't let myself buy it because.... well........ it was a wine colored MIM Jazz. I went back to buy it on a day off and it was gone. Now, you may think I'm nuts, but that bass had something about it that called out to me. Its mojo connected with mine.

So, I think it is different for different people. I tried not to feel the mojo of what was an ordinary new bass. But it was there.[/QUOTE]

like this one?.......just got it 2 weeks ago.......used....walked into the store looking for a new strap, it was up front.....loved it, played it, loved it more, bought it
