Monitor Rec (Sorry)

I have to mount one to a wall and one on a stand but if you're spend9ng like 1.5-4k on monitors what are you buying?
Why the different mounting for each?

If you're using these for a critical listening task, such as editing, mixing or mastering, then I would say the resultant differences in these two mounting options will likely be significant enough to present considerable stereo imaging and frequency response issues. If that's the use case, and I suspect it is if you've got a budget of $1,500-4,000, then I would propose that you attempt to reconfigure your space to allow for proper placements. Further, with such a wide-ranging budget, I would prioritize acoustic treatments and a reasonable set of monitors rather than dumping it all into the monitors themselves. This assumes that you are in an untreated space. If you can't change the mounting and can't put up acoustic treatments, then purchase Slate VSX Immersion One and use them for all of your critical listening tasks, then add some Kali or JBL monitors for several hundred and still come out way ahead of your budget.

If your use case is not critical listening, such as just monitoring bass while you're tracking, then grab some Kali or JBL monitors for several hundred and use the money elsewhere.

Oh this is just for a corner of the room setup. Nothing professional. Just been using headphones forever. Unfortunately I can't currently move things and there is a window preventing mounting both and not enough space on the left side for a stand so gotta mount left and stand the right. Will look into JBL/Kali/Slate. Thanks.

For this type of application I tend to caution people away from spending large sums on monitors. A monitor, broadly speaking, is only as good as the room it's being used in. That's a very broad statement riddled with inaccuracies, but it speaks to the point that in many applications the acoustic treatment of the space is often time a better place to spend money. If I had to choose between high end monitors in an untreated room versus a decent set of entry level monitors in a well treated room, I would pick the latter every time.

Slate VSX is an insane value. I have a fully treated studio that I designed from the ground up with quality monitoring, and I do basically everything that requires critical listening through VSX these days. I'll do final checks on the monitors, but it's all through VSX. I own the closed back and the newer planar open back IM1 version as well. The IM1 with the recent V7 software update is absolutely incredible. It's still working on headphones, which is enough of a deterrent for some people to not consider them, but if you need excellent translation, they're hard to beat. If I were just monitoring my bass or casually listening to music, then I'd grab some decent entry level monitors rather than VSX.
