Nearing completion of my second build, a monkeypod 5 string carl thompson knockoff. Yes, another fake CT, what can I say? Back in the early 90's it was my dream bass, so why not make one for myself.

Picked up the slab on Oahu

Laminated the neck. First botched attempt shown on right. 5 pc neck with wenge and purple heart. Maple added for contrast

Installing the fingerboard

Laying out the body

resawed some scrap and tried to bookmatch it for the faceplate

Purple veneer on the back

Man I would love to rummage through that wood pile in that first picture. I love your dog, I have a soft spot for beagles.

That neck is amazing.

That wood pile was on Oahu. The guy in the picture has a friend that is an arborist and he cuts up trees that would normally be destined for a wood chipper. He will even send you slabs if you want. I have his contact info if anyone is interested.
