Monoprice Indio Jamm Flamed Maple at $140

Looking to buy a new cheap bass for $200-$300 and stumbled across monoprice's offering for $140 on target of all places.
Anyone recommend them are they truly made out of firewood?
I'm also looking at the Squier Bronco because that uses a guitar pickup and will track well for effects; every time i pick one up at the store I never put it down.
I have a Seymour Duncan Paranormal bass on the way that I'll be doing a review with + paired with the MXR Thump for the echoplex color sauce.

For $140 that's hard to beat, any SX users online and can vouch there? Ultimately waiting for the day Brice gets a shortscale 6 string back on the site.

This is my first post and more to come especially as gear arrives!

I have no experience with their basses, my only monoprice instrument is a bolt neck lp style. But, that said, I feel that everything I have bought from monoprice (amp, speaker cab, headphones, guitar) was a good deal.

This club Official Exquisite/Glarry/Burning Fire Bass Club?
has all kinds of discussions on the uber inexpensive basses. Mostly Glarry, but not exclusively. Might want to drop in. The Monoprice Indio looks equivalent to the dressed up Glarry II offerings.

There’s a guy on YouTube (can’t recall his name but I do recall he’s Canadian) who reviews uber inexpensive guitars and he has rated Monoprice Indio as a decent guitar for the money

Unrelated to OP but I sold my 4 strings mikro and got the indio, way better for me, Mikro was too small. Feels more solid. Nut is cut better than a Jack casady I saw at the store. Please note this is my garage bass, I don't care if my bicycle falls on it. For this purpose it is ok. It needed a good setup out of the box, obviously. Fret job seems ok. There is no shielding in volume/jack cavity, I did not check the pickups cavity.

Is that a flame top on that?
That’s a sharp combination with that PG and body color.

Time will tell if it's firewood, will update the thread in 6 months. The wood in the back is... woody? It's better than a plywood guitar I have.
I tried it with a strap, thought the weight was well equilibrated before that. There is some neck dive.

Try to ignore the naysayers. Darrell Braun reviews their guitars on YouTube and gives them decent reviews. I don't see why this bass would be any different. I usually do not like a Butterscotch bass, but that bass with that flame top and pearloid PG really look good to me. Enjoy playing it and drop into the Glarry club which is really for Uber inexpensive basses anyway.

Any update on that Indio? I'm looking at that same one and considering dropping a cheap active preamp in to it. After new strings, set up, etc, is it a decent bass?

Well to be honest I didn't play much with it but got it out of the garage today, tuned it, and it was nice. Setup is quite stable, even after some months in an cold (50 F/10 C) garage. It has a little fret sprout, as usual on any bass in winter in Canada...

So yeah, I would recommend for a cheap bass.
