MOOG FREQBOX - master thread

I'm about to pull the trigger... Does it work well on fretless?
I'd say so yes!
I sold my Freqbox a while back and kinda have a bit of sellers remorse.
It was never as smooth as I wanted to be, despite trying the aforementioned tricks with comp, eq, octaver etc.
I never cared for the wackier stuff it done with the hard sync off (or have I got that the wrong way round?) I just wanted it for synthy dirt and that it does well, but like I say I wanted to tame it to be smoother which I never seemed to be able to do.
It stacks great with other dirt pedals and can add a touch of synthyness to most anything, but I ended up using it at such a low setting, that I ended up trading it and sticking with my Oxide and Mastotron fuzzes.
Not trying to put you off as its a great unit, like all the Foogers and I'm betting you will have a blast using it with a fretless, I just thought I'd add my $0.02

If you're looking at this to create a bass synth sound skip this and go straight to purchase the Future Impact from Panda. Works great with frets or fretless (fretless for synth is awesome, nice glissy no-attack slides and all that), less expensive than stacking a chain of analog pedals, more robust, can't praise it enough. Check out my page for some sound samples: pandaMidi Future Impact bass synth sound samples and patches - cgraham.com

I have my sights set in this pedal. I will hopefully be snatching one up very soon, probably with tax money :D

I really want to add a cool "noise" pedal to my board. Something that will really stand out. I think the Freqbox will do great. what do you guys think?? I also will get the exp pedal too. Someone told me the bypass on this is weird, like it introduces dirt/gain into your signal even when bypassed....is that right? Even still, if it is true, it will be in a loop if that's the case. Just trying to find out the particulars before I get one. But I am pretty sure I am getting one. The GAS is strong with this one!

Sod the expression pedal and try and source an MP201, that unleashes the beast within ANY fooger!
Foogers ARE well addictive and an MP will be a beyond wise investment if you continue down that crazy Fooger river

While I'm sure you're right, I'm not quite ready enough to drop over $400+ on an exp for a Moog. But dang it does look really cool. I think the reg exp will be good enough for me for a while. Now if I decide I want to get more Moog, then yeah, I could see making that investment. I'm already thinking of the Clusterflux hehe

i have madass gas for that harlot of a module
then you WILL need an MP lol
I never rated the ep2/3 expression pedals... Dunno if it's just me (I'm SURE it isn't ) but them pedals get NOISY!! sure, there's no pot but after a few weeks of using new ones (one S - plural!) I've ALWAYS had a scratchy type noise start coming through, as if the pot was *****d
All told, it's happened to three of them.
Back OT , the mad stuff that the 201 can do is jaw dropping!!
The LFOs and modulation shiznay are but the tip of the iceberg!!
It's twenty pedals in one AT LEAST!!!
