Okay, quite a few people had some input on my last post about my Mesa kind of sort of blowing up on me. Well, that problem is fixed. Got a new KT88 put in her and had everything checked out and it was fine. Yesterday I'm playing and notice my volume slowly crap out. Finally, the only sound I'm getting out of the amp is crackling. And that's crackling coming directly out of the amp, not the speaker cabinet. Worst case scenario where the cab dies, drops the impedance and then kills the amp has been ruled out via the 9 volt battery test. I'm thinking that it may be a pre-amp tube causing this now. However, considering I've only been able to get maybe 2 hours of use out of it, if that, and all these problems with it, I'm close to calling Mesa and telling them this thing has been nothing but trouble and I'd like one that works without having to drive up and down a mountain every few weeks to have something replaced. When it works, it's a great amp and I couldn't be happier with the tone. But that's a rarity. Anyone know what my best course of action may be here?
UPDATE: I took the amp back to the repair shop and at first the repairman could find nothing wrong with it. All the tubes worked fine and he suggested to check my cabinet and cables, but everything checked out on that end. I was about to pick the amp up before I got a phone call saying that he had found some kind of capacitor that was pretty much toasted. I didn't really catch all the details of what he had said, but given all the problems I've had with this amp it's pretty apparent that it was damaged in shipping. There is no way Mesa would have let the thing leave their factory with all of these problems.
