It does look like the mixed sets are coming in the clear winner. Would this be a good mixed set to consider?

These are the strings that come on some of the USA-made Jazz Basses.

Now that the new Fender 8250M strings are different they don’t sound as good or last as long as the older original 8250Ms use to.

EDIT: I have a 110TW on my mia standard P bass.

I wonder if feel while slapping as to do with the sets like 45-100 and 40-95, where the E and A are a lot less tight than the D and G. Thumb strings vs finger strings? I know slapping can be more complex than thath, but its a guess.

Not sure what the op's point is in asking what gauge is most popular, the one that I see most often is 45-100. Which is a sort of medium gauge. Which gauge to buy should be specific to the bass and the style of music/ tone you are going for. I generally prefer the heavier gauge 50-110 for the beefy bassy tone and the strings stay put ie I don't have to go looking for them with my right hand. I do have one bass that has a one piece neck and I'm afraid it would warp if I put such heave strings on so I use 45-100's on that one. Anything lighter than that I feel like you give up too much bottom end.
