Most expensive single ever auctioned

Has anyone in the UK heard of this record? It's called "Do I Love You" by Frankie Wilson on the Motown label. It just sold at an auction last April for over $41,000. Apparently it's been a huge dance hit in the Northern UK. I don't think it was ever released anywhere else.

Anyhow, some of the musicians on it are Earl Palmer-drums, Carol Kaye-bass, Gary Coleman -vibes with lots of horn players including Jackie Kelso and Plas Johnson on saxes. It was recorded in 1965 in Los Angeles at Armin Steiner's studio there where a lot of Motown hits were done when Detroit got overloaded.

Wow. That puts it into the same territory as Bob Dylan's first album with the deleted songs, as well as several blues 78s.

Good song; what an amazing way this wound up having such value.

Thanks for sharing; I had never heard of Frank Wilson, but he certainly had chops.

That is pretty amazing. I heard that Motown has released this on an album on cd now. I'll have to see if I can find it anywhere.

The LA musicians on the date were getting cash under the table for those sessions. I think they're sorry about that now.
