most universal preamp?

My personal #1 is the Noble in combo with a Broughton RFE. The Noble has no controls over the midrange, and the parametric mids of the RFE work perfectly with that - also the resonant HPF and LPF work as a cab sim.

Universal preamp suggestions I'd make and have not seen in this thread:

Tech21 Q\Strip. Has everything you need, super transparent.

Broughton Studio One. That's the one I use when I don't bring the Noble and want a versatile preamp.
I highly recommend the Q/Strip. It has high & low pass filters built in, so you can actually use distortion without killing your ears. Honestly I’d recommend it to most people before something like a Noble preamp. I’m sorry but I find the Noble to be a little… Gimmicky… I’m yet to be convinced that it is worth anywhere near the amount of cash it goes for. Get a KHAN VTDI if you want something like that. Still the Q/Strip is probably better for *most* people.

I'm still looking for a preamp pedal, but when I read about clean the ones I would consider are the MXR M81 or the Broughton Messenger Jr.
The Messenger is excellent, I have the v1 and the Jr, both very clean, very clear, very present. Have had the v1 for 6 years, when I first got it I set up at practice and after a song my guitarist was like “what did you do? Don’t change anything, that sounds great!” Have used both with many genres.
