Can anyone please give me any tips on how to create a decent motown bass line as i need to this for a music course?

So true. It starts and ends with Jamerson. Even the other bass players who worked in this style (Kaye, Jemmott) are following in his footsteps.

For music of the 60's it comes down to Jamerson, McCartney and Dunn.
