MP3 player with a Line-in recording jack?

Believe it or not, I don't have an IPod, or an MP3 player of any kind. But I've found a reason to buy one finally. However, it MUST have a line-in for recording audio from, say, another MP3 player, or a Hi-Fi system, or heck from the sound guy's console at gigs.

Our sound guy is recommending his Creative, but it's a monster device and costs an arm and a leg. I don't need massive storage capacity. 1 or 2 GB should be plenty.

Any recommendations?

Mine has this capability, and its an older model, so probably be able to get one on the cheap (iRiver H340):

ipods are pretty dang good, and i've had a few.

i use my ipod w/ a belkin mic attachment, and while it does have a 1/8" line in, i rarely use it, cause the mic is that good. i take it with me to all my rehearsals, and its become irreplacable.

btw, i've had only refurbished ipods, and they've all worked great.

My guitarist has something similar for his, it's pretty damn good and you can get pretty good recordings out of a desk.

I don't think his is a belkin though, actually I don't know what make his is.

Are you familiar with anything like that mic/line in that is compatable with the Ipod Touch? I'm pretty sure that my wife is getting me one for Christmas, and having the option to record practices and the like would be pretty handy.

i dont see how'd it'd be any different. btw, the only reason i chose the belkin is due to the fact it doesnt have those silly mic arms that i'd probably break off.

but head over to your local apple mecca and see what they have.

yup,

mine come out pretty good. the mic doesnt overload too badly. and the only times it has was w/ an overeager vocal. but arent they all? :p

great for hearing yourself in context, and nailing down parts. and w/ itunes, its really easy to transfer to my laptop, convert into mp3's, and email out or upload. not sure how it'd work without itunes, but i never bothered, since it works so easy.

i sound like an apple shill, but if something works, it works!

Thanks guys. Some very useful information here and it got me looking in the right direction.

MD isn't an option. That's what I'm effectively replacing. My little MD player is great but it's getting harder and harder to find mini disks. And when I can find them, they're quite expensive.

Y'all got me looking in the right direction, and I stumbled on to this little (and cheap) gem:-

https://www.techbuy.com.au/p/74087/MP3_PLAYERS_PLAYERS/Creative/70PF121300052.asp

It's only 1gb, same as a minidisk, but it records in MP3 format rather than wave files, so I should be able to fit much more on to it. And for a measly $45AUS, I'm not expecting miracles.

I'll give it a try and if it works I may spend the extra money and upgrade to some of the nicer products you've been recommending.
