*** TRADED ***

This is #1401, completed in 2007. A rare feature of this bass is its maple top AND back. Very few MTDs have been made like this due to the extra time and cost involved in adding a back. This one also features an ash neck which has a very fast feel to it. The neck has proved to be extremely stable. I've been told that the abalone MTD logo on the headstock is also a rare feature. Condition is excellent. This bass ships in the very nice deluxe MTD hardshell case. Not really looking for a trade, as I already have something in mind, but feel free to pass something interesting by me.

$3050 shipped in the CONUS. Paypal echeck, money order or certified check accepted.

Great looking MTD Gary! :)

I've owned a couple but as of yet I haven't gotten a chance to own or play one with an ash neck. How does it compare to the wenge/wenge & Maple/rosewood basses?

Both of mine had the Tulipwood bodies too. Is the maple brighter sounding?

Thanks,

Thanks, Joe! This is the only MTD I've owned so I personally can't make the comparisons, but I've been told that the ash neck makes for a more aggressive tone. It does have a bright, but not harsh top end, and produces a very tight low end.

Bump for a fantastic bass and a top TB'er. I should know, I've played that bass a lot. :)

Thanks, my friend. Considering the time you spent with this bass, and with many other MTDs, you'd probably be THE person (besides Mr. T himself) to describe how the ash neck and the maple back affects the tone. Care to share your thoughts? :)

This one's pretty aggressive. With the maple top AND back, coupled with the standard ash body (not lightweight or "swamp" ash), there's a lot of brilliance, aggression, and sustain to this beast. Also, considering the woods in it, it's still not too heavy... under 10 pounds. If it weren't for the ash neck, which adds some low mid punch to the mix, I'd think this bass would be too brittle or thin sounding without adding EQ. The ash/maple neck in particular is kind of a magic bullet with Mike... it's got some low mid punch from the ash neck, and a nice even sweet high end from the maple (as you'd imagine). This thing also takes an amazing set up. You can get the strings right down on the deck with this bad boy and not get any fret buzz if you have a light enough touch.

Thanks, Vic. As always, your description is spot-on.
