This project started a few months back. The MTD Artist model is being dropped from production, and is my all time fave bass. As an MTD endorser, we get first dibs on closeouts, b-stock etc.. This color was a mis-tint that never went into production. I dug the model, the color and it was a few bucks off to boot. I had fancied the idea of a dual P/U version for some time- so figured this is the perfect opportunity. A quick call to everyone's favorite bass lady Katie at Dana B. G...oods, and it was on it's way.I was uncertain about the pickup placement, so a quick call and a few E-mails to THE bass guru Michael Tobias, and my mind was made up. It's based on the Super5 layout, and switching. Next call was to Tracy cox ( http://www.inlaydesignstudio.com/ ) for the routing & wiring. A few months later and here it is! Much thanks to all of those who had their hands in the project!!
Very cool I really like my Artist and have been wanting to upgrade it soon. Yours must be THUNDEROUS MONSTER!!! WE WANT SOUND CLIPS !!!!
I hope to get some sound clips up after the holidays. The Bart MM4cbc is awesome- I also have one in my stock artist. With the single coil (split) you can get some cool funky tones, and with both in humbucker it's crushingly huge! There is also a setting that is the same as the stock P/U placement, so you don't loose the lovely growl that makes the artist so cool.
I stayed with the stock preamp- I can't find any reason to swap it ....but I'm sure a bart pre would be sweeter!
