Hi, I'm thinking of getting hold of one of these basses. It's the 5 string model with Grendel on the headstock not MTD on the headstock. Does anyone know what the neck is like on these basses? String spacing etc? I love the neck on the Tobias Killer B5 (Not the new ones) so i hope the neck is like that. Nice and flat with strings close together ;-)

MTD GRENDEL 5?

The bass you are referencing is a very early 2000's or late 90's Grendel. Necks are C shaped like American MTD's. Hard to find but they are out there. Great sounding basses at any price.
I owned one years ago, ended up selling but they are very nice. That model Grendel is actually 34 inch, and the later ones are 35. This is why I ended up selling because I wanted a bit more tension in the B. They all sound pretty similar in that the custom made Barts, wenge fboards and preamp sound very sizzly. I currently own the MTD Beast 4(shown in my profile photo on the right), which is passive and it just smokes, and doesn't need any preamp. Hope that helps !

Its my Steinberger XL-2, pictured in my profile to the left, love it. Its the one bass that I can never seem to bring myself to consider selling..I actually had an L2 and really liked it but the Xl2 neck is way thinner or more comfortable for me
I just purchased the Grendel that has been on TB for a few months. Will get Thur. Mine is 34 inch scale, alder body, maple neck and Wenge board

Yes it has. Great sounding bass. Don't know why they are not more popular

I don't think there was enough of them made for them to be 'popular' even including whatever number of Bass Centre Stadiums were made.

Good point. I put on new strings and a battery and it came to life. It's fun to play. Just learning how to use the settings.
Bass Centre was a big London (UK) Bass store
They had a shop run of Stadium basses made which are apparently the Grendel in all but name.
The Czech company that made Grendel apparently also did Spector Euro at some point but I can't confirm this

Those Czech MTD's are sleepers. According to M Tobias they were only made there for less than 2 years, then the factory closed down. Which explains why there aren't many floating around.
Even the passive models (Beast) sound and play great. Here are mine, the fiver is 35". Both have asymmetric neck profiles. Both are featherweights.
