from what i have heard, mtds are sweeeeet basses, very nice sounds, awsome playablity, and super sexy looks.
I have an American MTD 535 and it is awesome. If you look on YouTube, you will find a video of Andrew Gouche playing the bass you are inquiring about.

I agree with these guys. Sexy looks, pretty nice sounds, very sophisticated look to it.
If you're used to slapping on a 6 then I'm sure you're okay. I'm not sure if you're familiar with 19mm string spacing, but the Kingston has it (which is supposed to make slap/pop easier)
Neck is nice and fast, no sticky finishes, not rough to the touch, etc. It has a little flatter profile, which I like.

I have an MTD Kingston KZ5 for almost 2 years now and with heavy playing it is still holding it's weight.
The spacing is very comfortable. The neck is Asymmetrical and very smooth. The sound is modern and the electronic is very user friendly with plenty of low and high. The neck is solid! No adjustments yet on the truss-rod and the action can be adjusted very low.
The Black chrome doesn't last that long. it has tarnished and the tuning keys are starting to show a little oxidation thru the plating. The Barrel Jack and the pickup balance are starting to make noise if touched. But All of this is part of the aging and normal wear.
The sound and feel are still perfect and it is my main Bass playing 2 to 3 shows a week.
