I had two of those in the '70s, real ones, not fake reissues. I don't really recall what those pickups sounded like by themselves as I put a Rick hi-gain pickup near the bridge, along with a BA II bridge (and one of them even saw a bandsaw for some minor reshaping - nothing so horrible compared to what GL did to his P Bass :laugh:).

Thank you for this. Forced me to learn a little bit more about the history of the EB-3 as I thought the different pup placement was a different model entirely. Now I know I want that 70's EB-3 is the sound. Kind of a moot point anyway since there is not a single lefty Epi bass available, but at least now I know.

I saw the original lady singer, Ruby Starr, twice in the Green Bay WI area in the late 70's, early 80's. First time, she did all covers. Second time all originals. Fantastic band.

I agree, having a strong pickup (at least humbucking) in that region is guaranteed to give some thick wooly madness. I have a bass with a Third pup there. Pure bliss I tell ya!

After a second viewing, I agree: the bass indeed is an EB-3. When I made my post I scrolled past the early stuff to get to the bass solo which I already knew was there. That far in, I could not get a clear enough view of the second pickup to identify it being there.

Long scale ones dive like mad, but short scale..? Not in my experience, and I've owned and played many.

The '69 in my avatar has zero neck dive. It does sport a Hipshot bridge which helps, but the very same bridge did absolutely nothing to help its slightly younger long scale cousin...
