Muddy no tone sound from my schecter elite

How can I know if the pre amp on my guitar is bad It has emg he pickups. It sounds muddy and seems to be out of tune when it's not. How can I check or do I have to take it to tech.

I did replace it with a Duracell had an energizer in there. It sounds ok at the beginning but as we play it deteriorates. To where it sounds flat and out of tune I double check with my tuner and I'm i n tune but it sounds like crap.

Try setting all the controls on the bass to their "neutral" position, if they have one. Plug directly into your amp with a new cable or at least a different one, and see what happens, and if possible plug into a different amp just to make sure it's not the amp. Make sure that your pickup height is correct for those pickups, the correct measurements should be found on Schecter's website or EMG's website, or documentation that came with your bass if you got it new, and also make sure your intonation is correct as well. Does this bass have a 9 volt preamp or an 18 volt preamp? If it has two batteries, make sure both are the same and both are brand new.

I've had a few Schecters, never had a pre-amp go bad. Most problems were bad/drained battery. One had some loose wiring that was cutting out. I agree to check Schecters and EMG websites. And try more than one new battery if you can.

If it's sounding out of tune, I'd check your intonation first.

Not sure, but I think your bass has the same pickups as a Spector Repop I had owned. My observation was that as soon as the strings got a little dull, the tone went to poop and I could not fix it without new strings. I didn't want to change them that often, so off she went. In the back of my mind, I blamed it on the pickups, logical or not. Mine had the Aggie pre. Never had the same problem with single coil basses.
