Multiscale 5 String Set 40s for Dingwall

I have a Dingwall ABZ5 and I’d like to put 40s on there (it currently has 45s).

I’m having a heck of a time finding multiscale strings in 40s. I’m sure some brand somewhere makes them. But where?

Does anyone have any recommendations?

How about Stringjoy? You can customize the gauges and their "extra long scale" is 39.25" in winding length (ball end to taper), which is plenty long enough for the Dingwall.

Here's just an example of how the tensions would work out on the 34"-37" multi-scale...

That’s fantastic! Thank you. I’ve used them once before for acoustic, but never for bass or electric.

I also found that LaBella has some long scale that fit as well.

I’m kind of amazed how tough it is to find 40s.

Check out Kalium Strings as well. Similar to String Joy, I'm pretty sure you can custom order singles in nearly any gauge you want. I used to use them when I was playing in low drop tunings on 4-string Fenders, but shipping to Canada was prohibitively expensive.

Be careful, the site clearly states their strings will not work with basses with 37" scale. Only 38.5in long, ball to taper.
You can try Payson strings, or fretnation.com has some selections for Dingwalls

I got the info about the Stringjoy "extra long scale" being 39.25" directly from Tom Mulvaney at Stringjoy thru email. Has it been changed recently?

I’ve been getting SIT Nickel Powerwound in custom sets via Jason at Fretnation - great strings regardless of price, and the price is great too!

I use Kaliums on my Dingwall. I like being able to fine tune the gauges and lengths are easy to determine. I am using a .118 B string and might go lighter next time

I know they did a run at first that was long enough, they also had a .165. But it's changed.

Thanks for the info. My email communication with Tim Mulvaney was from a little over 2 yrs ago, so the info I got from him back then is now outdated.

@jojobean39 we can easily put together a .040 set. Do you need a light set? We have that too.

Thank you all for your help. I kept hitting dead ends here. I wouldn’t think these were too hard to find. But… I would be wrong.
