Multitrack Recording Hardware

I need 4 tracks recorded simultaneously for drums - kick, snare, 2 overheads. It can't be a mixdown to 2 channels.

I don't have the budget for a Firepod. I do however have everything else necessary - time, knowledge, etc.

I'm on OSX and using Logic Express, so I tried using a couple of the Behringer UCA-202s (Aggregated Audio Device) with a good external multi-channel preamp. Got a good sound and signal, but the audio goes out of sync while recording. (fast G5 - different hard disks doesn't make a difference)


Any suggestions?

Out of sync with what? Other tracks you've already recorded? Or, while recording the simultaneos tracks?

If the Behringer UCA-202's aren't somehow sync'd together using the same clock (which there appears no way of doing) they won't be able to lock together and stay in sync. I don't see any mention of hooking multiple UCA-202's together in the product info or manual, so I'm guessing that's not supposed to work, or would cause issues like you're having.

You'll hear digital "glitches" if it was a time code/clock problem. In that case use CPU as "master clock" ( don't know if you can do that in Logic... )

Don't pass audio through the CPU for effects. Use direct playthrough monitoring.
