In the briefest terms, it's any and all of these things:
song arrangements
individual parts
individual tones
keyboard programming
manipulation/editing/replacing/organizing of backing tracks
gear acquisition
background vocal coaching/rehearsing/drilling
lead vocal coaching
personal performance coaching
staging/production
band interaction/performance coaching
FOH liaison and direction
lighting liaison and direction
crew member hiring/firing
band member hiring/firing
spiritual advisor
The list goes on and on, actually. It's been a very busy year, MD-wise.
