Music Man replacement

Any ideas for a MM replacement pickup that actually sounds like a late 70's Music Man? I've tried the Duncan with the large magnets and thought that it sounded aggressive and crude. I'm aware that a lot of that sound was due to the active electronics. I think that the newer Music Man basses sound very little like the late 70's ones. The old ones were VERY aggressive and in your face but with more fatness than a Jazz. The only time I've blown a speaker was with a first year Music Man.( it wasn't even that loud)This thing had the strongest and punchiest start to a note that I've ever heard. Should have kept it.
