Double Bass Music stand light?

Wondering if anyone would care to update this thread? Any new products?

We are turning a room into a music room. It has insufficient lighting, but when we got quotes for installing ceiling cans, we thought we might just buy a few battery/rechargeable stand lights.

There seem to be several options below $50. Could buy 1 of each, but would prefer avoiding any clinkers, or would like to go with any clear fave.

I've got an LED Hammerhead stand light. At first people laughed at how bright it was, but the first gig with bad lighting or doing a theatre show where the old stand lights are about as much use a candle then suddenly everyone is envious!
Mine is both battery operated and able to be run off a wire as well. Strongly recommend that option.

I have this one..

Main reason I bought it was the E26 light socket (can use regular bulbs, incandescent, CFL or LED ) plug in, and very bright, well adjustable, and fully reliable. Great for 5 page big band charts.
The light also reflects back from the pages on the music stand to create a diffused "spotlight" on me. This ensures, that I'm visible to the audience. If you're on stage, you're in Showbiz, baby!

At home, I use it as a lamp to light up the room for late night practice, or for Talkbass browsing.

It not expensive at all. A19 bulbs can fit, but A15 bulbs will fit better. E26 base. The 9W spiral CFL I put in fits great. This will last you decades. Vastly superior lighting than all the battery power options listed so far and far more affordable too.

---
I also have two $5 AAA battery powered LED clip lights from eBay, direct ship from China. Meh, only if I don't have access to electricity. Or I want something very dim, because ambient light is good, but not quite good enough.
Truth: I use these as flashlights at home more than anything else.

How is the battery lifespan? Looks like I'll have to decide between batteries and rechargeable.

I tend to use the batteries if I can’t plug it in so battery is very much the emergency. Having said that you can get through a good 3 or 4 hour gig easily with it. I’ve done week long runs of a show where it’s running maybe 3 hours a night and the reduction of light at the end is still brighter than most people’s lights.

Can’t remember the name of it but I’ll check in the morning when I’m out, it basically lives in the stand case that lives in the car.

Yep, that's what you want. No rechargeables, no batteries, just the standard stand light used by professional musicians for the least 50+ years. (it might make sense to own one battery light for the rare occasions when you are in the dark and without electricity.) I always carry a light duty extension cord, a couple splitters, and a three prong to two prong adapter anywhere lighting may be required.

Yeah, we've got at least 1 of those - on my stand right now.

For this other room, we were thinking non-corded might be a better option than making sure everyone sat next to an outlet, or snaking extensions all over the place. We expect to regularly have 2-4 other people join us for various types of music. At least one won't need one as he uses an iPad.

We're just trying to make it a really inviting place to play music.

Trying to figure how heavily I want to invest in triple As!

I use the Mighty Bright Orchestra light, it has 9 LED's and uses AA batteries or AC adaptor. I usually use the AC but the batteries do last a long time. It also has two brightness levels.
Mighty Bright also makes a number of other music stand lights including ones that are rechargeable. Check out their website at mightybright.com.
They are not cheap but they work well and are much brighter than a lot of other lights, mine has been used on a lot of gigs with battery power and AC, everyone in one of my bands has one of these and nobody has had any problems.

For a few years I've been using E26 bass, T10 filament LED's. Exactly the same size as standard music stand lamps. They are the best, IMO. When I bought them they were $8 apiece, but much cheaper now.

I try to stay away from devices with built-in rechargeables. Simply because the built-in rechargeables often cannot be replaced or are hard to find. I prefer standard cells with low self-discharge and an external charger. A bit more bulky, but if you need you can always put in already charged replacements or non-rechargeables and immediately start or continue to use the device. But get a good charger and good cells.
This is more important if you use that device rather seldom.

Thanks for mentioning the T10 name for the shape of the bulb. It makes it easier for everyone to shop for the right shape.

For folks looking, a "25W equivalent" would likely be best, (40W equivalent will do nicely, but could be a bit too bright). I suggest colour temperatures in in 2000s Kelvin, (2000K - 2700K), since we'd use it at night and the less blue light, the better. The amber glow is a soothing one. LED bulbs do not get hot like incandescent bulbs, so the metal shade of the lamp will stay cool to the touch.

My wife used her little Mighty Brite light yesterday and said it worked fine. She has another clip on she used for reading. I imagine we will continue to just struggle through with whatever we already have - set me up next to an outlet, let some people use ipads, maybe redirect a couple of standing lights...

Whenever possible I have been loading documents onto my ipad and using forscore app- especially for reoccurring gigs. i prefer it to the stand lights. You can take a photo also of paper copies and save them. Though it can be time consuming it is nice to be able to put the music in set order and use the foot pedal page turners I know this isn’t really the question at hand, but it is a common solution for me for the stand lights. I also have the small LED one with my foldable stand (extra batteries and a small extension chord) and even a backup in the trunk.
